Abstract

Virtual reality reduces costs and mitigates safety risks for oil and gas operations. Virtual reality also offers collaborative sessions with other users to interact remotely. However, VR application in O&G requires large bandwidth for data transfer especially when interacting in real-time to reduce latency. Access to highspeed and stable internet connection has been an issue for isolated O&G platforms. The deployment of 5G addresses this issue. In this article, a framework of user-application interaction is introduced and the implementation of 5G in VR application is presented through the design connectivity. As a case study, a virtual Instrument & Control lab was developed to test the framework and connectivity design.
